At least nobody was at work in the department. I had to go to the parts department with my PC and connect through a port on the switch and put the new IOS on each switch via TFTP before things would play together again. I'm guessing flash memory is not synced between stack members and that I only changed it on the master. When I reloaded the switch only one of three worked, apparently because of an IOS mismatch.

I telnetted in using Putty and updated the IOS by simply deleting and replacing the 12.2(37). So, I think what you're saying is that you set the reload command for 20 minutes or so out before you start making changes just in case, right? Then kill the command when you're done if no harm is done? Unfortunately, I don't have a license so I can't get the TAR files when I want them :-( I'm also familiar with the reload command - I just wasn't sure how you meant I should use it. I use the forums to get a better understanding.

I have been looking at the guides pretty much every time I google a concern. I don't see a career as a Cisco engineer in my future.
